Cerebras Systems Inc. Investigation Details
Cerebras Systems Inc. shares fell roughly 5.7% after Culper Research disclosed a short position and published a report alleging that the Company's wafer-scale AI processors could fail within approximately 1.5-2.5 years. The allegations challenge statements made in SEC filings and earnings calls regarding technology durability and reliability. In a DRS filing on June 17, 2024, the Company stated its packaging technique was "designed to enable reliable and high performance in all workload scenarios" and disclosed that it warrants products for one to two years, while its warranty provisions increased from approximately $538,000 in 2022 to approximately $3.633 million in 2023. On a Q1 2026 earnings call on June 23, 2026, Chief Executive Officer Andrew Feldman stated that issues involving thermal expansion, power delivery, and cooling were "solved years ago." Later, during the Q2 2026 earnings call on August 12, 2026, Chief Executive Officer Andrew Feldman stated that "it takes millions of system hours of production hardening to get to the point where one can deliver hyperscale quality and reliability." On the same call, Chief Financial Officer Robert Komin projected that core gross margin would trend towards 60% plus in 2027. The investigation concerns whether Cerebras Systems Inc. adequately disclosed risks regarding processor durability, failure rates, and warranty costs ahead of the Culper Research report.
