Johnson & Johnson Investigation Details

Johnson & Johnson shareholders lost money when the stock fell sharply after the Company reported MedTech segment sales that missed Wall Street consensus expectations, despite beating overall adjusted EPS estimates and raising its full-year guidance. MedTech sales growth reached approximately 2.5% to roughly $8.6 billion, impacted by flat international sales, declining Surgery revenue, European budget cuts, China pricing pressures, and geopolitical factors affecting procedure volumes. The slowdown coincided with continuing investor concern over the orthopedic hips-and-knees business that the Company is considering spinning off. On a July 16, 2025 earnings call, Executive Vice President John Reed stated, "As already highlighted, we delivered a very strong second quarter, exceeding expectations on both the top and bottom line." However, Chief Financial Officer Joe Wolk disclosed that "In MedTech, results were not to our standards in cardiovascular, primarily heart recovery," having noted on an earlier call that "Our MedTech business delivered growth that fell below our expectations." Although filed SEC figures for the second quarter of 2026 recorded $8.926 billion in MedTech sales with 3.6% operational growth, international headwinds and market pricing pressures continued to weigh on overall market expectations. The investigation concerns whether Johnson & Johnson adequately disclosed the specific operational pressures, budget cuts, and pricing impacts in its MedTech segment ahead of its quarterly earnings release.
