Bright Minds Biosciences Inc. Investigation Details
Bright Minds Biosciences Inc. shares fell sharply after the U.S. Food and Drug Administration placed a partial clinical hold on the Company's planned Phase 2 BMB-101 trial for epilepsy and developmental and epileptic encephalopathies. The regulatory action was not related to earnings or financial performance, but instead stemmed from preclinical toxicity findings in mice as well as inadequate pharmacokinetic and juvenile-toxicity data to support pediatric enrollment. Following the regulatory action, the Company stated that the partial hold was limited strictly to the planned U.S. trial and did not impact any of its other ongoing clinical trials. Bright Minds Biosciences Inc. also stated that it disagreed with the FDA's interpretation of the preclinical mouse findings, though that disagreement did not resolve the agency's regulatory concerns. Additionally, the Company stated that it was awaiting the full formal letter from the FDA and acknowledged that additional data or clinical studies might be required to address the hold. A comprehensive analysis of SEC filings showed no affirmative statements by the Company regarding BMB-101 safety, FDA review status, pediatric enrollment, mouse toxicity, or pharmacokinetic data. The investigation concerns whether Bright Minds Biosciences Inc. adequately disclosed preclinical mouse toxicity findings and pharmacokinetic data deficiencies for BMB-101 ahead of the FDA's partial clinical hold.
