Unum Group Investigation Details

Unum Group shares fell after the Company reported third-quarter revenue of approximately $2.55 billion in a Form 8-K filed on November 3, 2026, missing analyst consensus estimates of roughly $2.91 billion by about 12.4%. The revenue shortfall represented a year-over-year decline of approximately 21.6% to 21.7% and accompanied a GAAP net loss of $419.7 million, despite adjusted operating EPS of $2.20 modestly beating consensus estimates of approximately $2.17. The results stood in contrast to earlier executive commentary. During a July 29, 2026 earnings call, Steven Zabel, Chief Financial Officer, stated that "Looking ahead, we are positioned to achieve our full year expectation of 4% to 7% as the impacts of last year's transactions will not dampen the growth rate in the second half of 2026," while noting that "Top line trends remain positive, supported by strong sales and persistency in our core businesses." Additionally, in Exhibit 99.1 of the November 3, 2026 Form 8-K filing, the Company framed performance by noting that "Core operations top-line trends remained strong with premium growth of 4.7 percent on a constant currency basis." The investigation concerns whether Unum Group adequately disclosed revenue trends and top-line pressures ahead of its third-quarter financial report on November 3, 2026.
