On December 8, 2020 FireEye released blog posts revealing that the Company had been “attacked by a highly sophisticated threat actor, one whose discipline, operational security” and that FireEye believed this incident to be a “state-sponsored attack”. The blog posts further disclosed, “during our investigation to date, we have found that the attacker targeted and accessed certain Red Team assessment tools that we use to test our customers’ security. These tools mimic the behavior of many cyber threat actors and enable FireEye to provide essential diagnostic security services to our customers.”
Following the publication of the blog posts, FireEye’s share price fell over 13% to a closing price of $13.49 per share on December 9, 2020
